Homemade

I had my first ever attempt at making-bread-by-hand today! (In other words, without a bread machine).

And I am so pleased with how the loaves turned out that I just had to post pictures of them and of the delectable sandwich I made for myself for lunch. Avocado, tomato and lettuce seasoned with a dash of sea salt.

It was incredibly good and I think I'm hooked. I hope to make a couple loaves every 2 or 3 days,
thus eliminating the need for store-bought.

Do you make your own bread? I was surprised at how simple it turned out to be!

  1. I can almost smell them through the computer screen! Years ago, after reading the "Little House" books, I began baking my own bread. It was so delicious.
I've gotten out of the habit, but it sure is tempting to do it again having seen your beautiful loaves.

  2. Hey, Awesome!
You must have remembered how mom shaped and patted the loaves and put them in the pan because your loaves look just like her's.
At this point I am hopeing to find a way to soften the crust. My crusts are terribly hard.
    Any ideas?

  3. Oh yes, Linda, they smelled incredibly delightful... just as I remember when I was growing up... my mom has made bread for as long as I can remember and I've wanted to pass on those same memories to my boys for so long now... I'm glad I've finally learned.

Hmmm...Tracy, did you use buttered hands to shape the loaves and put them in WELL-BUTTERED pans? Maybe that's what made mine so soft?

  4. Wow! They look so good!!! Better then mine looked. I make my bread at moms place now... it worked doing it by hand but I got so tired when kneeding it. So now I get to use her bosh mixer. :)

  5. Hello Katrina,
I love following your blog all the way from uk.
I make my own bread sometimes, and esp Pizzas, My family tuck in and its always all gone in minutes!!!Its alot easier to make bread than people think, so i try encouraging others.

You are a beautiful mommy, i wish i had been put in touch with Above Rubies and learnt about homeschooling before I had had my first 3 children! I had 3 wonderful sons first and now have 2 daughters, who i have at home. Its difficult to bring the boys out of school when they are so used to it,and also my parents are teachers and object to me homeschooling, though are christians. Its not so common where i live in uk. Am praying for God to help me over the decisions for my boys, they are so talented in sport and feel at home they wouldnt get this much.

Anyway, praying for your pregnancy, looking forward, to hearing your news and seeing your wonderful family grow in many ways.
    May the Lord Bless you
    Anna

  8. I make bread sometimes. The kids always love it. I start the bread in my machine but then put it into loaf pans to bake. I will try to remember your tip about using buttered hands to soften the crust.
